Ghana has currently recorded 313 cases with 6 deaths as of April 8, 2020. This is almost a month after the first two cases were recorded.
Most Ghanaians are worried about how the number of infected people keeps rising.

https://nkaros.data.blog
However, at a press conference the Information Minister, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah said people should not be alarmed by the numbers. He explained his reasons for calling for calm.
“The decision was to mandatorily quarantine the about 1030 persons who were coming in within that 48-hour period before the closure of our borders. The first showed that about 79 of them were positive.”

“But the experts advised that it will still be important to ensure that the remaining are kept in mandatory quarantine for a fourteen-day period and tested the second time. Because it is possible that somebody may have been exposed early and wasn’t manifesting the exposure in the samples that were taken. When the second tests were done 26 of them now turned positive,” he explained further.

“So a good count of our case count increase as you have noticed from the data is coming from the second group of persons who tested positive during the second test.”

Mr Oppong Nkrumah explained further that they have started the enhanced contact tracing where teams are tracking anybody an infected person may have come into contact with for testing.
In his fifth address to the nation, President Akufo-Addo said that the results of the over 15,000 people out of the 19,000 who have been traced will determine his next line of action.

“The other part of it is the enhanced tracing exercise that has started. As the president mentioned on Sunday night, as at that time about 19,000 persons had been traced, samples had been taken from about 15,000 and he mentioned that his decision by the end of this week will be heavily informed by the results of that 15,000. Out of the over 15, 000 that have had their samples taken, 7461 have been tested and out of that 14 have tested positive,” Mr Nkrumah said on Tuesday (April 7, 2020).

As of Wednesday, April 8, 2020, the numbers increased to 313. The Ghana Health Service said, “with regards to enhanced contact tracing and testing, as of 7th April 2020, a total of 11,016 samples from contacts have been processed and 37 (0.34%) have been confirmed positive for COVID-19.”

Mr Oppong Nkrumah said “We continue to encourage people that do not get alarmed when you see the raw case count numbers go up. It is because we are aggressively going out there in search of the virus, we will find these numbers. The more numbers we find, the better we are for the Ghana Health Service to provide them with care for the sick.”

Marriage Is For Matured People – Adjetey Anang

The general perception out there is that celebrity marriages don’t last and it has been fuelled by a number of high profile divorces.

However, there are some celebrity couples whose marriages have stood the test of time and become a source of motivation for others and one such couple is actor Adjetey Anang and his wife Elorm.

The couple celebrated their 13th anniversary on Tuesday March 10 and in an interview with Graphic Showbiz recently, Adjetey Anang advised young people to be mentally ready for marriage before they go into it.

“Never commit yourself to something you can’t finish. There are people who marry due to influence and it must not be so.

“If you are not ready for it, don’t commit yourself to it because marriage is for mature minds. I believe it is a lifetime journey and has to be observed as such.
“Consistency, mutual respect and not being

comfortable with each other are the basic things to consider in a relationship. Both parties should learn to get better as the years pass but if you are comfortable with each other, you wouldn’t want to embrace change.

“It is also very necessary to have mutual respect for each other in the relationship. If you have mutual respect for your partner, you hold him or her in high esteem and accept them for who they are, while allowing them to change over time. Couples who don’t respect each other’s views easily go their separate ways,” he stated.

Adjetey Anang also revealed that their 13-year marriage journey had not been easy due to his busy schedule but their commitment to each other had sustained them this far.

“I’m the busy type because of the nature of my job so it has not been easy but I thank God for how far He has brought us. My wife understands what I do and she also works so it’s quite understandable. We are committed to each other.

“In spite of my busy schedule, I always remember I have a family at home who also need my attention. What I do is my source of income so I can’t stop it either. I am just conscious about work and family so I strategise,” Adjetey Anang said.

The Graphic Showbiz asked The Perfect Picture: 10 Years Later actor his view on opinions shared by people that women are meant for the kitchen and the bedroom and he said it was not right to give women such tags.

“I think we have been culturally psyched to believe that but time has changed. There are women in different sectors doing amazing things. We have to support and appreciate women to rise above just the kitchen and bedroom,” he commented.
Adjetey Anang became a household name when he played Pusher in Things We Do For Love in the late 1990 and early 2000.

He has since featured in major movies such as The Perfect Picture, Sidechic Gang, Keteke, Devil In The Detail, Adams Apples among others.

Adjetey Anang won the Best Actor in a Drama Award at the Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards (AMVCA) in 2018; Actor in a Leading Role at the Ghana Movie Awards (GMA) in 2014, Best Actor at the Golden Icons Academy Movie Awards (GIAMA) in 2013, Best Performance By An Actor in a Supporting Role at the Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAA) in 2010 and many more.

“New Voters’ Register Respect EC’s Independence” on YouTube

The National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) has advised stakeholders to respect the independence of the Electoral Commission (EC) as the debate on the latter’s decision to compile fresh and credible voters register ahead of the 2020 election rages.https://nkaros.data.blog

“Having critically examined Article 45 (a)(e) of the 1992 Constitution, NUGS on behalf of Students of Ghana appreciates the independent authority and functions of the EC without undermining the inputs of the various election stakeholders like the political parties, civil society, and citizenry at large.

Whichever way the debate may fall; one question stands tall amongst all the arguments; what does the constitution say concerning electoral matters? The reference answer remains Article 45 and 46. At this point, the NUGS is strongly calling out that all debates must cease, egos must be put aside and cool heads must be allowed to prevail for the EC to execute its mandate judiciously to the good people of Ghana,” it pointed out.

The largest student body in the country gave the advice at a press conference addressed by its national President, Isaac Jay Hyde on Wednesday at the International Press Center.

“Consequently, we strongly call on all stakeholders to respect the independence of the EC and desist from acts of intimidation, coercion, and inducement directed at obstructing the EC from its constitutional mandate of conducting a credible, free and fair election or stampeding it to take any decision that will mar the beauty of election 2020. We demand nothing short of a free, fair and transparent election from the EC,” the student body further advised.
NUGS further advised all political parties and stakeholders to continue to use the Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meetings to engage the EC on their concerns. “NUGS is very much concerned about the Ghanaian student having a sound and safe environment which fosters academic excellence.”

However, NUGS urged the Electoral Commission to do well to engage all opposing parties and stakeholders in a manner that shows respect and appreciation of their views in a democratic space adding, “it is not for nothing that the Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) and the Eminent Advisory Committee (EAC) were formed to provide the intermediate advisory roles to the Electoral Commission regardless of its constitutional independence.

Law includes logic and as a matter of fact, NUGS encourages the EC to give room for some amount of logic to operate without undermining their independent powers and authority.

New Voters’ Register Respect EC’s Independence: https://youtu.be/-i45KbL5Rz0

The EC says it will save the nation GHC170 million with the acquisition of the new Biometric Voter Management System (BVMS)

The EC has explained that the total cost of maintaining the old Biometric System is $74, 364, 500 while the total cost for the new BVMS system is estimated at $56,000,000. These include Biometric Voter Registration Kits (BVR) kits and the Biometric Verification Devices (BVD).

According to the EC, the total cost of using the old BVR system for the 2020 election is $38, 692,500.00. This includes; the cost of refurbishment of some BVR kits used in 2016 and the acquisition of new ones. The number of kits used in the 2016 registration was 5,500 and the number of kits that were refurbishable was 1,500 and the unit cost of refurbishment was $3500, pegging the total cost of refurbishment at $5,250,000. The EC further posits that the nation also needs an additional 6500 kits at a unit cost of $5145, pegging the total cost of additional kits at 33,442,500.

However, for the new system, the number of BVR kits required for the 2020 election is 8,000 at a unit cost of $3,000.00, pegging the total cost for the new BVR @$24,000000.

OUR CONCERNS, AND YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES.

TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN…..
I am a University College continuing Student in Level 200 and I have my own encounter for which I believe most of my mates in other Colleges would share with me. Click for detailshttps://nkaros.data.blog

The global canker of this COVID-19 which has led to the shutdown and halt of many services and activities across the Globe which has find itself within the jurisdictions of our motherland,Ghana is really causing us an ululation.https://nkaros.data.blog

Social and Economic activities in Ghana have abruptly come to a standstill due to this Plaque. Following the measures from the WHO and the Local Health Institutions to prevent the spread of this disease, all educational institutions have been closed down for the wellness and safeness of educands.https://nkaros.data.blog

From that perspective, various sectors under the government are coming up with proper initiatives to continue it services to the Citizens to promote standard of living of people

.
The Ministry of Education under the auspices of Dr.Mathew Opoku Prempeh recently announced the initiation of E-learning for the various levels of Education which in my thought as a person, citizen and compatriot applauds and commend the Ministry on.

https://nkaros.data.blog
As a Trainee,I have few concerns which I deem challenging and must be heard by authorities and addressed duly.
I know vividly that people who are not victims of these challenges or are political bigots or are myrdon of politicians will oppose my concern but this is not about politics,it’s about “our” welfare.
Touching mainly on Accessibility ,Collegians or Trainees are faced with the challenge of accessing the channels/medium for Lectures under these faces.

Phase 1. The challenge I deem pertains most trainees is the Money to purchase bundle. The measures which have been institutionalized by the government to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic has seen the lockdown of some regions, precisely the Greater Accra and Kumasi respectively. Due to this, most guardians/parents who are caretakers of we trainees are no more working but are at home and are even fed by the Government and other NGO’s.

Phase 2. Some Students are in very remote areas where surfing the NET is a problem due to poor Network coverage. I can confidently say that most citizens in Ghana have access to good network system but not all.

Phase 3. Some trainees are not privilege enough to use smart phones which are the main means of getting access to the Lecture Platforms. Most of my mates in Level 100 are always calling and crying to be considered, but how?!❗ Those with smartphones are finding difficulties to log in the various given sites and applications developed.

According to J. S FARRANT(1980)- “Lesson considered taught is one that has been learnt“.

PERTINENT QUESTIONS DEMANDING ANSWERS;
✓•How is the Ministry of Education and Stakeholders strategically strategizing measures to favor all and sundry?

✓• Will the topics be revisited by Lecturers when College resumes?

Stakeholders should speak out

. WeAreNotAgainstE-Learning.

. ProperMeasuresWillHelp.

Covid-19 is wake up call to industrialise Ghana’s economy

Principal of Jackson College of Education has said the country must learn a great lesson from the devastating impact that the Covid-19 is having on world economies.click here for more details.https://nkaros.data.blog

Theodosia Jackson said Ghana must take advantage and build a robust economy that hinges on industrialisation.

She said the pandemic has brought to fore, the importance of supporting indigenous companies to produce more instead of importing virtually everything for local consumption.

She cited economic powers like the United Kingdom and other European countries that have started taking steps to cut down imports from China by embarking on local production of certain essentials following the pandemic.https://nkaros.data.blog

This, she said, should inspire Ghana to take the bold step to permanently fix our economy and wean the country off foreign aid.

“We cannot continue to import everything we need as a country. It is important to empower our factories to meet our local needs and even export the surplus for foreign exchange”, she opined.

She expressed grave concern about how the textile industry is collapsing all because their products are being duplicated by Chinese companies in connivance with some unpatriotic Ghanaians.

“We must rise up and fight for our own industries so we can collectively build an independent nation with a buoyant economy”, the emotionally charged Mrs. Jackson, advised.

She is of the firm belief that given the concomitant effects of the Covid-19 pandemic on the world economy, it is anticipated that hardly will any donor nation dole out aids to us Ghanaians or any other developing nation.

In this light, she advised that the nation takes pragmatic and proactive measures to embark on aggressive industrialization to produce goods that are consumed by our compatriots locally but are imported from abroad.

She said, it is irresponsible for Ghanaians to conspire with other nationals to collapse the textile industry which was not only vibrant but also provided a lot of direct and indirect jobs for our compatriots.

The Chinese, according to her, have also rendered most printing companies in the country redundant as common exercise and note books are printed in China notwithstanding the fact that local companies have the capacity to do the same job.

Mrs. Jackson therefore appealed to policy makers to consider the introduction of stimulus packages to support local industries to beat off competition from foreign firms which have taken over their businesses.

Such a policy would feed into the President’s Ghana Beyond Aid initiative since it would boost the economy and make the country less dependent on foreign aid, she stated.

She said Covid-19 would leave in its trail, a bitter lesson for various countries across the globe and stressed the need for Ghana to come out strongly with viable economic policies that can withstand any shock going forward.
