Sarkodie & Titi Join Tracy Sarkcess In The UK To Welcome Junior Sarkcess

This is the second time Sarkodie is visiting the UK within a period of 2 months, I stand to be corrected on this and this time, he travelled with his daughter, Titi.

Sarkodie has posted photos of Titi having fun in the United Kingdom──and I’m just fighting with my keyboard to know their mission in the UK after their last chillout at Aqua Safari.

Ever since it was reported that Tracy Sarkcess is pregnant and hiding in Germany preparing to welcome another baby, she has been mute on social media by refusing to post current photos of herself.

Tracy Sarkcess was also missing at Sarkodie’s 2019 Rapperholic Concert and that alone should tell you that there is an iota of truth in her pregnancy rumours.

I think Tracy Sarkcess isn’t in Germany as speculated a few months ago──I can bet with my last pesewa that she is rather in the UK preparing to welcome their second child.

Remember, Sarkodie in the latter part of 2019 posted on his Instagram stories that he needs a baby boy and that screenshot went viral on the internet with Ghanaians reading different meanings into his post.

It could also be that Tracy Sarkcess has already delivered their second child the lowkey style just to avoid making the headlines.

I’m even thinking of placing a bet that Sarkodie and Titi are in the United Kingdom to witness the birth of Sarkodie Junior──and I’m 80% sure to win this bet.

Check out photos of Titi chilling in the UK.

Govt Looking To Reopen Schools Soon – Kojo Oppong Nkrumah

The Minister of Information, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah has revealed that the President is in talks with stakeholders on reopening schools soon.

He made this revelation in an Instagram live Q&A session with Ghanaians today. “The gov’t is looking at reopening schools. The President is engaging with stakeholders to know the way forward.”

According to him the government will be considering regular testing on kids when schools resume and will also have to make sure every student is equipped with face masks before reporting to school.

The Minister acknowledged that the decison and measures are a bit complicated and assured the Ghanaian populace that, “the Presidnet will update us soon on the matter.”

Ghana on Monday, March 16, 2020 closed all schools, universities and suspended public events to stop the spread of coronavirus as a string of African nations imposed tighter restrictions to stem the spread of the global pandemic.

President Nana Akufo-Addo announced in an address to the nation that the authorities were shutting schools and universities “until further notice”.

Public gatherings, including conferences, religious services, sports matches and political rallies have also been suspended.

Solidaridad Shows The Way Of Deploying Digital Tools For Agricultural Extension Support Amid Covid-19

As the novel COVID-19 pandemic continues to ravage economies, its full toll on agriculture is yet to be reckoned more fully.

The restrictions on movement and the limited social interactions will strain livelihoods and the agricultural supply chain as access to inputs and extension support services by the already vulnerable farmers and their communities is interrupted.

Using Interactive Voice Response (IVR) platform, Solidaridad, an international civil society organization, is increasing access to agronomic and other production support information by farmers and communities that produce cocoa, oil palm and other food staples.

The platform is compatible with basic feature and android phones. It allows the target audiences to receive pre-recorded messages in real time.

It is an important part of a remote support approach that helps Solidaridad to quickly assess ground situations to generate response plans and interventions.

“At this time when physical interactions are less desired, the IVR platform helps us to reach out to a large number of our programme beneficiaries quickly to share important information on COVID-19 protection protocols and to deliver other technical crop production content that aligns with the farming season and the cropping calendar”, says Isaac Gyamfi, Regional Director for Solidaridad in West Africa.

Experience in the use of digital tools in virtual training of farmers

The Interactive Voice Response platform and other digital tools are not new to Solidaridad. In West Africa, they have been applied in Ghana, Côte d’Ivoire, Liberia, Nigeria and Sierra Leone, where Solidaridad is promoting sustainable practices across the cocoa, gold and oil palm supply chains.

In 2019, the organization used the IVR platform to transmit messages on Good Agricultural Practices to over 40,000 farmers, workers and producers under the Next Generation Cocoa Youth Programme (MASO) — funded by the Mastercard Foundation, and the second phase of the Cocoa Rehabilitation and Intensification Programme (CORIP II) — funded by the Embassy of the Netherlands in Ghana.

Solidaridad also deployed mobile data collection tools to profile 60,068 cocoa farmers, 19,627 oil palm farmers and 1,056 miners in the operational countries. The data is used to support the creation of markets for potential small and medium enterprises.

It also serves as a baseline for current and future programmes whose impacts and outcomes would be tracked using the Interactive Voice Response platform.

“The IVR platform provides Solidaridad and partners real-time feedback on farmers’ experiences, learning and practices for additional intervention where necessary. With over 60,000 cocoa farmers already subscribing to the voice application platform, Solidaridad would continue to maintain contact with project beneficiaries during the pandemic. A total of 39,000 farmers are using the platform,” says Ahmed Abdul Basit, Head of Digital Solutions at Solidaridad West Africa

Stepping up COVID-19 awareness in local communities

Since March 2020, Solidaridad has used the IVR platform to sensitize 28,557 beneficiaries on the need to practice social distancing and other precautionary measures to prevent infection and contain the spread of the virus.

In Ghana, the awareness campaign messages, which were culled from national directives and the World Health Organization guidelines, were translated into Twi, a local language spoken by many of the communities where Solidaridad currently operates.

In Sierra Leone, Solidaridad is supporting the government to step up public awareness on COVID-19. In partnership with the Ministry of Health and Sanitation, through its District Health Management Teams, Solidaridad has supported the production of relevant information, education, and communication materials for dissemination to over 20,000 farmers in 300 local communities in the country.

Through its Gold programme in Ghana, the organization has also embarked on a sensitization campaign to educate eight Village Savings and Loans Associations, six project mines and mining communities on measures to control the spread of the virus.

Other digital tools for sustainability

The organization will continue to innovate in the use of a digital classroom and other virtual tools to train small and medium enterprises and other community facilitators who are engaged for data collection.

In this effort, Solidaridad welcomes partnerships with development investors and foundations, as well as government ministries, departments and agencies to scale the use of digital innovations in support of vulnerable producers and enterprises to grow as the world adapts to the new reality of physical distancing.

Additionally, the organization is fast-tracking the development of a digital self-assessment tool for artisanal and small-scale gold miners to educate them on responsible mining practices. The organization has so far profiled some 1,000 miners in Ghana for a pilot use of a set of digital tools.

Support from donors and partners

In West Africa, Solidaridad’s work is funded by the Netherlands Government, the Mastercard Foundation (MCF), the European Union (EU), the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO), the World Bank (WB), Henkel, Achmea, Mondelez International, and many other private sector companies.

Certainly, Solidaridad could not have done all these alone. The organization is grateful for the support of all development and implementing partners as it works to respond to the needs of beneficiaries at this critical time of COVID-19.

Vice Prez Bawumia Surprises His 75-Year Old Primary School Teacher

It is often said that the teacher’s reward is in heaven. But that was not the case in Napkanduri on Sunday when emissaries from the Vice-President led by Hon Solomon Boar, North East Regional Minister, arrived at the home of 75 year old Mr. Jacob Duuti.

Mr. Duuti taught the Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia at Sakasaka Primary Scchool in Tamale and Dr. Bawumia has never forgotten the positive influence of this special teacher Duuti on his life.

Mr. Duuti and his family could not believe their eyes when Mr. Duuti was handed a brand new tractor to assist in his farming.

He was in shock and tears filled his eyes as his family and community celebrated the good news.

After receiving the tractor, the elated former teacher of the Vice President expressed his heartfelt appreciation and prayed for God to continue to bless Dr. Bawumia and grant him more wisdom to serve the country.

Mr. Duuti recalled nostalgic memories of the Vice President during his days as a primary school pupil in Tamale at the Sakasaka Primary School.

“Bawumia was brilliant and inquisitive. He was always asking questions and I am not surprised about how high he has risen in life. I am so proud as his teacher,” he said.

Teacher Duuti shared a memorable childhood picture of the Vice President; a picture of young Bawumia dressed in full regalia as a lawyer during a speech and prize giving day of the Sakasaka Primary School.

Mr Duuti further revealed that Dr. Bawumia acted as a lawyer in a play as part of activities of the speech and prize giving day.

According to the former teacher, the Vice President was very articulate and said he wanted to be a lawyer like his father.

But he later went on to read banking and economics after his secondary education at the Tamale Secondary School.

programme on radio stations including Peace FM where he has been a regular guest before his suspension from the National Democratic Congress.

I am very sorry; I know I will disappoint you (Kwami Sefa Kayi),” Adomonline.com quoted him as saying.

“I had a vision of late President, Prof John Evans Atta Mills and he warned me in that dream and so I won’t go on any radio station to speak,” he added.

The leadership of the NDC suspended the outspoken staunch member on May 6, 2020, based on what it described as ‘his consistent anti-party conduct’.

One of the lead petitioners, Kojo Danquah added in a separate engagement when he was contacted that, _”the poor quality of lectures as precipitated by poor internet stability, inability to engage lecturers directly and the lack of laboratory based classes were enough reasons for management to had pondered about a considerable slash in tuition fees after the announcement of the E-Learning policy.”_
Sampson Tagbor is also quoted in a WhatsApp group engagement to have said that, _”it is quiet unfathomable that, the University having asked students to vacate the residential facilities and subsequently directed to return for their belongings when we had hardly spent half of the semester in these facilities, you would want to think that every well meaning University like ours with the outmost concern for its students would have been making arrangements for a partial refund of fees us, the case is different as our PRO VC for Academics and Student Affairs was reported by Radio Univers saying otherwise. It totally beats one’s imaginations”._

As the petitioners embark on the signatories collection to support their petition to the University and the relevant stakeholders, we will be keeping an eye on this new development.
